Donate Your Books
Help us find great books new homes - while supporting your community
Clearing shelves? Downsizing? Just finished a great read? We'll give your books new life. Donated books stock our bookstores, fill Little Free Libraries, and reach schools and nonprofits through our READcycle program.
HBFoL accepts all books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, VHS tapes, puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, and other bookish and book-related materials - any publication date, any condition! Bring them in and our volunteers will be happy to help you.
Drop-off Information: What to Expect
Book donations can be made at our Bookstore location (701 11th Place, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254) during any bookstore hours. Wednesday nights are dedicated to book drop-offs; we encourage larger donations to consider Wednesday night donations!
Bring your books in boxes or bags, and our volunteers will receive your donation, count it, and provide a receipt for your records.
Book donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Dozens of books each week end up in local Little Free Libraries, either placed directly by our team or picked up at our Bookstore by Little Free Library stewards.

Thousands more books reach schools, teachers, senior centers, and nonprofit partners across Southern California through our Book READCycle redistribution program - giving these books a new life supporting members of our community that lack access to books themselves.

Books that cannot be reused - generally due to condition - are repurposed or disposed of responsibly. We minimize waste and maximize the life of every donated book.
