• FEBRUARY 16 SALE SPECIALS: — Children’s section: Overflowing shelves of books & videos--come early and stock up for rainy ftaernoons, weekends, & the Nanny’s day off. Hardcover fiction and nonfiction: Read up on your most/least favorite candidates--we have politics and world affairs titles in abundance. Many have never been opened yet. See what 50¢ will still buy (Hint: a brand-new book at 1309 Bard Street).

• MEET & GREET FELLOW BOOK LOVERS — Betty & Bill Ryan welcome all current and future members to their home to celebrate the FOL’s nearly 50 years of service to the Hermosa Beach library and learn what the organization is up to these days.

• WHAT’S NEW AT THE LIBRARY?
PAWS TO READ: Children’s Librarian Carolyn Reed has started a monthly program for Independent Readers ages 4 to 12. Therapy Dogs & their owners will be at the library once each month to listen and encourage young independent readers ages 4 to 12. Advance registration is strongly suggested: call now or stop in for a schedule and/or to reserve a place in this popular Saturday event: 310-379-8475.
PAPERBACKS ON DISPLAY: The Children’s section recently acquired a new rotating polystyrene display rack for large paperback books, thanks to funds provided by Friends of the Library book sale proceeds.
BOOK DISCUSSION CLUB: Community Library Manager Elmita Brown invites new members. The club meets at the library the 4th Wednesday of every month at 10:30 AM. Copies of each month’s selection are available to check out at the information desk. Upcoming selections: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time on Feb. 24 & Suite Française on March 26.

• WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CAROL TANNER? — In January she retired after serving as a library aide since 1973, and she will be very much missed by patrons and staff. Carol has also been a member of the FOL since the early 1960s and plans to remain active in various community organizations, including this one.
